While SUVs currently rule the market, there are still plenty of good reasons to consider buying a sedan. They're typically more affordable, have better mileage, and are more pleasant to drive than SUVs, while still providing plenty of passenger space.

A major complaint many people have with sedans is their lack of cargo space. Nissan has taken this into account when redesigning the Altima, making sure that you have all the cargo space you need.

Passenger Space

The Nissan Altima has a cabin space of 100 cubic feet, more than enough to fit five passengers comfortably. Both the front and back row have more than enough headroom and legroom, ensuring that even at full capacity, the cabin doesn't feel cramped.

Cargo Space

The Altima offers 15.4 cubic feet in the trunk, which is more than enough space for all of your gear. However, if that isn't enough for you, all Altima trim levels come with a 60/40 foldable seat, allowing you to convert some passenger space into valuable cargo space.

Nissan Altima Trim Levels

The Altima comes in five different trim levels and two different engine options. The body remains the same throughout so that you can expect the same comfortable and roomy interior and cargo space at all trim levels.

The standard Altima engine is a 2.5L four-cylinder combined with a continuously variable automatic transmission. It generates 188 HP and 180 lb/ft of torque. An optional, more powerful engine is available for the SR and Platinum trims and generates 248 HP and 280 lb/ft of torque.

S

The most basic trim level, the S, still comes with several high-end safety features, including automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, and a rearview camera. You can also add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and lane-departure warnings as optional extras.

SR

The sporty Altima, this version comes with an optional 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sporty suspension, and other unique elements. It also comes with all the safety features listed on the S model as standard.

SV

The SV is a step up from the S, bypassing the SR's sportier elements. It adds noise-reducing side windows, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist as standard.

SL

The SL comes with all the features in the SV, along with a navigation system, leather seating, and a Bose audio system.

Platinum

If you want 19" wheels, ambient cabin lighting, or a 360° camera, you'll need to opt for the highest trim level. This level also offers a turbocharged engine as an optional extra without the sportiness of the SR.

Conclusion

The Nissan Altima is a spacious sedan aimed at providing families with space, comfort, and utility. While it may not have as much cargo space as a truck, 10 cubic feet is often more than enough for most people. If you need more space, you can fold down the rear seats, giving you access to almost 30 cubic feet of extra space.
